Dorothy M. Rull passed away peacefully Friday, January 4, 2019 at Meridian Village, Glen Carbon, Illinois. She was born March 7, 1926 in Dorsey, Illinois to Carl and Katherine (Emde) Johnson. Dorothy graduated from Edwardsville High School in 1944. She married Chester W. Rull (deceased April 1999) August 7, 1948 in Dorsey, Illinois. Dorothy and Chester made their family home for more than five decades in Bunker Hill, Illinois. Dorothy and Chester owned and operated Rull Hardware (now Spickerman Hardware) and Bunker Hill Propane (now Rull Bros. Propane) for many years. Dorothy believed it important to give back to the community and spent many hours donating her time and talents to civic, church and school charitable organizations, but was most proud of being a charter member of the Bunker Hill Beautification Committee. Dorothy was a devout member of Zion Lutheran Church in Bunker Hill. Dorothy and Chester had four children: Steven Rull (Joann) of Warson Woods, MO; Carla Boussen of Washington DC; Kristine Rull of Edwardsville, IL; and Stanley Rull (Carla) of Godfrey, IL; seven grandchildren: Laura Rull Janosky (Brandon) of Kirkwood, MO; Meredith Rull Grimmig (Chris) of Radnor, PA; Ellen Rull of Atlanta, GA and Ann Rull and Grace Rull of Godfrey, IL; Khadija Rull Boussen of Washington D.C. and Youssef Rull Boussen of Dallas, TX; and five great-grandchildren: Bennett Janosky, Miles Janosky and Bryant Janosky of Kirkwood, MO and Marie Grimmig and Claire Grimmig of Radnor, PA; sister Marie Johnson of Dorsey, IL; sisters-in-law Eunice Johnson of Bethalto, Verna Brackenhoff of Quincy, and Betty Rull of Bunker Hill. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her infant brother Ralph, her sister Evelyn Ruppel, her brother Robert, and brothers-in-law, Percy Ruppel, Vic Brackenhoff, Norman (Butch) Rull, Leland Johnson and Gilbert (Bill) Rull. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 9th at Kravanya Funeral Home, Bunker Hill from 4 until 8 p.m. and 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 10th at Zion Lutheran Church in Bunker Hill followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Bunker Hill Cemetery. Memorials to the Bunker Hill Beautification Committee, Zion Lutheran Church or a charity of one’s choice are appreciated.
