Bill was born and raised in Granite City, IL, the son of Harold and Opal Hill. Bill shared his father’s love of the railroad and worked on the railroad as a summer job during college. Bill grew up attending St. Louis Cardinals games. Bill graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign with a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Engineering. It was at the University of Illinois while waiting for a taxi to the train station that he met the love of his life, Jo Ann. They were married two years later and shared a passion for the University including its athletic programs that they instilled in their son Cory, also a graduate of the University. Harold was an engineer at Fiat-Allis in Springfield, IL and Case New Holland (CNH) in Terre Haute, IN; Wausau, WI; and Burlington, IA, rising to the positions of Chief Engineer of Dozers, Platform Manager of Loader Backhoes, and Product Portfolio Manager of Construction Equipment. Even though his 31 years at CNH were demanding and he worked very hard, he said it often felt like a hobby. Bill felt a great connection to nature and loved to hike in the mountains, forests, and national parks. He was especially sentimental always on the lookout for the perfect thoughtful gift for his many loved ones and friends. Bill loved spending time with his family and friends celebrating holidays, birthdays, and other special events, always bringing along the perfect music for the occasion. He will be greatly missed.
