Harold William (Bill) Hill, 71, of Monmouth, IL, died Sunday, December 30, 2018 after a courageous year and a half battle with cancer.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jo Ann (Trojaniak) Hill, his son Cory Hill, his daughter-in-law Stacey Hill, his grandchildren Elliott and Gwendolyn (Winnie) Hill. Bill leaves his brothers Robert Hill (sister-in-law Diane Hill) and Brian Hill and joins his brother Warren Hill (deceased). Bill also leaves his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ron and Geri Schoen; niece and goddaughter, Kari Roller, her husband Dee Roller, and their children Joseph and Andrew Roller; nephew Joey Schoen; niece Amanda Hill, her son Logan Hill; nephew David Hill, his wife Amanda Hill and their daughters Anna and Eva.
Bill was born and raised in Granite City, IL, the son of Harold and Opal Hill. Bill shared his father’s love of the railroad and worked on the railroad as a summer job during college. Bill grew up attending St. Louis Cardinals games.
Bill graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign with a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Engineering. It was at the University of Illinois while waiting for a taxi to the train station that he met the love of his life, Jo Ann. They were married two years later and shared a passion for the University including its athletic programs that they instilled in their son Cory, also a graduate of the University.
Harold was an engineer at Fiat-Allis in Springfield, IL and Case New Holland (CNH) in Terre Haute, IN; Wausau, WI; and Burlington, IA, rising to the positions of Chief Engineer of Dozers, Platform Manager of Loader Backhoes, and Product Portfolio Manager of Construction Equipment. Even though his 31 years at CNH were demanding and he worked very hard, he said it often felt like a hobby.
Bill felt a great connection to nature and loved to hike in the mountains, forests, and national parks. He was especially sentimental always on the lookout for the perfect thoughtful gift for his many loved ones and friends.
Bill loved spending time with his family and friends celebrating holidays, birthdays, and other special events, always bringing along the perfect music for the occasion. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held at Kravanya Funeral home in Benld, IL on Friday, January 4th from 5 pm to 8 pm. Funeral service will be Saturday, January 5th at 10 am at Kravanya Funeral Home, Benld, IL with burial in Benld Cemetery.
