Lawrence A. "Larry" Pianfetti, 79, of Gillespie, IL, passed away at his residence on Thursday, April 23, 2020 at 12:47 pm after a long battle with cancer. Larry was the eldest son born to Anton & Clara (Burge) Pianfetti Skosey on June 15, 1940 at home. He lived in Gillespie most of his life with the exception of 2 WWII years in Detroit and 6 years in Benld after marriage. He married his long-time love, Marge (Ulakey) Pianfetti on September 28, 1963 in Benld, IL. She preceded him in death on December 31, 2019 after 56 years of marriage. Larry enjoyed hobbies of bowling, golf, movies and carpentry with several accomplishments in each. He served in the US Army Reserves for 3 years before the Army Reserve Center he was attached to in Carlinville closed. Larry was a 40+ member of the Gillespie Knights of Columbus having serves as their Treasurer for 37 years before retiring from office. He was also a 35 year member of the Bishop McNicholas Assembly 1985 chartered in Gillespie and presently held the office of a Trustee. He was the former president of Gillespie Country Club. He retired from Laclede Steel in Alton, IL after 40 years of service. He was also a movie projectionist for 42 years working several theatres in the area and was Manager/Operator of the Canna Theatre in Gillespie for 24 years. He is survived by his children, Donna Pianfetti of Orlando, FL, Steven (fiancée Belinda Sears) Pianfetti of Decatur, IL, Paula (Robert) Rhodes of Gillespie, IL, grandchildren, Chad Pianfetti, Taylor Dowdy, Torilynne Dowdy, Anthony Pianfetti, Treanna Dowdy, Grace Pianfetti, Ian Pianfetti, Miles Pianfetti, 3 great-grandchildren, brothers, Anthony Wayne Pianfetti of CA, Ronald (Pam) Pianfetti of CA, sister, Donna Sandergaard of Gillespie, IL and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, spouse, sister in law, Joann Pianfetti. Due to COVID-19, family services will be held with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery. Public services will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to Knights of Columbus Council 2076 in Gillespie or SS Simon and Jude Church.
